My Story

  • I have a Certificate IV in Animal Training and Behaviour with the Institute of Modern Dog Training (IMDT) and a current membership. For additional professional development,  I have attained Easy Peasy Puppy Instructor status.

  • I work with www.caredogsandco.com.au/assistancedog helping handlers train their dogs through all levels to reach their Public Access Test.

  • I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers Australia (APDT).

  • I hold current Human and Dog first aid qualifications (including mental health first aid).

  • I have a Bachelor of Arts double major in Journalism and Gender Studies (University of Tasmania).

  • I am fully insured with a police check, and Working with Vulnerable People card.

  • I am a past volunteer with Kingborough Dog Walking Association (KDWA) as a committee member and past-President, and their umbrella organisation, Tasmanian Dog Walking Clubs Inc.

  • I am an Run Director at Kingston Park parkrun, which is a dog-friendly and a free weekly event.

  • I've organised group dog walks for both sighthounds and non-sighthounds.

  • I've stage-managed, produced and hosted a large educational event for dog families in Kingborough called "What Dogs Can Do".

  • I've helped create a Dog Handbook with KDWA to encourage responsible dog families in Kingborough.

  • I have assisted Tasmania's only behaviour vet, Dr Katrina Ward, delivering her weekly puppy classes her final 18 months of teaching.

  • I completed the Easy Peasy Puppy Squeasy Qualified Instructor course through IMDT as further professional development.

  • I completed a three day Scent work workshop with The College of Scent Dogs (UK) to begin my scent knowledge journey.

I spent four years walking many breeds of dogs in multiple suburban situations. I have one whippet, Ruby. She is a born hunter, being a sighthound. Now a senior dog of twelve, Ruby is still driven to chase and capture small furry things. She  loves slow, sniffy walks and enriching games and puzzles. She continues to bring joy to my life, and teaches me a lot.

I have access to a wide variety of brains' trust and skilled professionals, and would be honoured to assist you and your dog. Teaching and learning new life skills together should be fun and engaging and full of rewards, as we problem solve together.

NOTE: I use science-based methods and thoughtful strategy to further develop and strengthen the bond you have with your dog. The bond is everything.

You will not find fear, force or aversive equipment and techniques in my training tool box. I have sworn to a code of ethics with both IMDT and APDT in everything that I do. Check out my Resources & Links page for those codes in full.
